Today I went to the town-wide garage sale with my mom and siblings. I haven't done this in years. Several people in our little town seemed very glad to see me out and about. I was surprised when a few of them asked "Why haven't you been blogging? I haven't seen anything new on your blog for a while." I didn't know anyone was reading it, to be honest. But that's not why I stopped blogging. I stopped because it simply stopped being fun. "You have to post a picture with every post." "You must stick to a particular niche." "Your posts have to be formatted just like this." "You must have affiliate links." "YOU BLOG HAS TO FIT INTO THE BOX TO BE A GOOD BLOG." I got tired of reading, seeing, and hearing about how a "good blog" needs to be just a certain way. I had to step away and take a breather for a while. I needed to reevaluate my blogging desires. You know what I decided? Maybe I don't want a "good blog", a money making blog, or even a popular blog. Maybe I just want a place to come and jot down ideas, brag about my dog, share things I've learned, show off photos sometimes, or pour out my frustrations. Sure - I'll never make money off of my blog, or get hundreds of people clicking my posts every day, but I'm okay with that. I didn't start blogging all those years ago to make it into a job. I started blogging to get away from the stress of my job. I want to get back to that. I want my blog to be my therapist again. Not my job. SO... Here is to hoping I can get back into a blogging routine again and write about whatever helps unclog my soggy brain and make me happy! |
