Wow. This is THE LAST of the Writing Challenge series. It went by a lot faster than I thought it would. Now I'll have to find a new challenge to do!
So, the last and final challenge is: You finish your WIP and an agent/publisher wants to buy the rights for it and challenges you to write a sequel. Write a one sentence summary of a possible sequel to your WIP. Well, they wouldn't have to challenge me. A sequel - several sequels (even a few prequels and spin-offs) - are already in the works. A one sentence summary of the 3rd Tales of the Wovlen book would be: The witch and the princess walk hand-in-hand with plans to slay the beloved dragon and curse the land. A summary of the 4th Tales of the Wovlen book would be: Gillion, Vliron and company decide to go on an adventure and find out just what's on the other side of the White Mountains. And the 5th Tales of the Wovlen book might be something like this: Wow. Demitreah wasn't such a bad guy after all. Especially compared to this new guy. Yeah. Eat your hearts out, Wovlenites (<-- those are my fans - "Wovlen-ites"). And so, this concludes the Writing Challenge series! I don't know how many people have kept up with this challenge (other than my family - y'all don't count), but it was a fun and easy thing to do to keep my blog active, and it also gave the Wovlenites some great sneak peak opportunities. On to the next challenge!

Today's Challenge: Does your current WIP have a happy ending or a sad ending? Can I plead the fifth? Well, considering my WIP is actually part of a series and I want people to stay hooked to it, and also keeping in mind that I am a sociopath with psychopath tendencies and no energy to go out and start a anti-batman gang.... My two current works in progress both have slightly sad endings. What can I say? Happy endings are for fairy tales. But, don't worry! Everything does eventually work out. I am planning a happy ending in the very last book.
If you haven't been keeping up with this challenge so far, here are the previous days!: DAY ONE, DAY TWO, DAY THREE, FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, TEN, ELEVEN, TWELVE, THIRTEEN, FOURTEEN, FIFTEEN, SIXTEEN, SEVENTEEN, EIGHTEEN, NINETEEN, TWENTY, TWENTY-ONE, TWENTY-TWO, TWENTY-THREE, TWENTY-FOUR, TWENTY-FIVE, TWENTY-SIX, and TWENTY-SEVEN.
Today's challenge: Your favorite fairy tale or fable That's a hard one. The Bear and the Wren, or King Thrushbeard, or Rumpelstiltskin.... does Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream count? I like the Bear and the Wren, because... well... I like bears. And I like how the Wren was so smart and crafty and insisted on general politeness, that he became king of the forest because of that. I think it would make for a fun movie! I like the story of King Thrushbeard because of the hard lesson of humility that the princess had to learn. Not everything in life would go her way, there were consequences to her actions, and married life was NOT all romance and roses. It was hard work. I also love the determination of King Thrushbeard himself. He loved the princess, and even though she was rude and clearly uninterested in him, he didn't give up on her and go home. He just found another way to win her heart, and he kept working at it until the princess really, truly loved him back. That's true love. Rumpelstiltskin has always been a favorite of mine... I don't know why. I've always felt a little sorry for the wee chap. It seems to me he was unfairly treated. The queen made a promise to him, and even though I wouldn't want to give up my firstborn child to a wee imp either, a promise is a promise! She shouldn't have made the promise so foolishly. But, she was just like so many girls are - worried about what's going on in the moment, and taking no thought for the future. My mom raised me on Shakespeare and shunned Disney princess movies like the plague (homeschoolers... gotta love 'em.) Midsummer Night's Dream has always been one of my favorite Shakespeare plays. The love triangles, the misunderstandings, the trickery, Puck.... Puck was my hero. He was so silly and naughty. There are better Shakespeare plays than A Midsummer Night's Dream, but as a child, that was the easiest play to understand and so it became my favorite. And it stays a favorite because of that.

Today's challenge: you are offered one million dollars in US currency to never write a single word again. Do you accept the offer? Sure! With that kind of money, I could hire someone to dictate my books and blog posts to. I actually might get more books published that way. I wouldn't have to worry about going to work for a while, that's for sure. But then the IRS would probably be all over me, saying that I owed them half of that (or more), and from there the mafia, mobs, gangs, hippies, and democrats would all be snarling after my money. But as long as I could hire a person with mad typing skills that I could dictate my stuff too, I'd be happy.

Today's challenge: You face off against your protagonist in everything-goes mortal combat. How long does the battle last and who wins? It would never happen. You see, I have written myself into my own book... you know... just in case I ever get sucked into my own never ending story. (You should always have a "just in case" backup plan) I am a mysterious, ancient, mostly benevolent, and powerful being in my world. Walneff knows me personally. Pharrgon has heard whispers of me. Keegan has seen a painting of me. He doesn't realize that, but he has. I can summon dragons, monsters, and even the elements to my aid, and never once touch a weapon. Griffons and strange beasts called Zhulong are my messengers and aids. I could go on about myself in my world, but I'll spare you. The point is, Keegan wouldn't fight me. If he tried, he'd get knocked unconscious, or tossed into the top of a tree for a time-out. Mortal vs. mortal, he would probably beat me to a pulp. But Dragon's Son vs. Awesome Author - author wins every time!

Today's Challenge: a character from your WIP who intrigues you. Oooh! This will be fun. I currently have 2 WIP (works in progress). #1 - The Tales of the Wovlen series. Vliron from book 2. He doesn't just intrigue me. He fascinates me. I can't really explain why, because that would be spilling the beans on the forthcoming books in the series, but let's just say that he is not what he seems. There is more to him than meets the eye. Plus, he's hot, wears black, has a tragic backstory, is rugged, and kicks butt on the battlefield. What more does a girl need to be intrigued? #2 - Deepwood Tales. This set of stories is being done in conjunction with a friend, and I'm not sure if they'll ever get published, but the main character of the stories will play a part in the fourth book of the Heroes of Ravenford series. The main character of Deepwood Tales is Kalyn. Her closest friend is a middle aged woman called "Fran". Fran intrigues me. She is blind (or appears to be), has a one legged screech owl, a gaggle of "demon" geese, and lives by herself in the forest. She knows how to heal, how to create magical items, and how to fend for herself. Monsters avoid her, and she always seems to know things that she shouldn't. I get the feeling she's a lot older than she looks too. So, yep. Those are my two WIP, and those are the characters from them that intrigue me.
Today's challenge is going to be painful for me! But first, if you haven't been keeping up with this challenge so far, here are the previous days!: DAY ONE, DAY TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, TEN, ELEVEN, TWELVE, THIRTEEN, FOURTEEN, FIFTEEN, SIXTEEN, SEVENTEEN, EIGHTEEN, NINETEEN, TWENTY, TWENTY ONE, TWENTY TWO, and TWENTY THREE.
Today's Challenge: the one thing that's preventing you from finishing your WIP. Ouch. Well, that's a good question. Is it my fear of failure? Depression and lack of self motivation? My ability to get distracted by another project and spend weeks at a time being distracted? Or is it simply procrastination? I don't know the answer. I think it's probably a combination of all of these.

Today's challenge: a future version of yourself travels back in time and tells you that no matter how hard you work to market your books, you never make a single penny off your writing. Do you still continue to write, knowing there's no hope of selling your books? Wow. Well, first I would slap myself and tell myself I was lying, because I have made money off my book. Good money. Sporadic, it may be, and easily spent it also may be, but I have made lots of pennies off of it! Next, the news would be a huge relief to me. I would stop trying to market my books! Marketing is the worst thing EVER, so I would be glad to give it up, especially if I knew it was a fruitless endeavor. After that, I'd start looking for a real job... like... becoming a baby panda hugger or a professional mermaid. But would I stop writing? No way! I write for the fun of it, to get the monsters and crazies out of my head. And just because my books don't get any attention while I'm alive doesn't mean that they wouldn't become popular after I was dead. They might even get made into a movie! Just do me a favor: if someone decides to make a movie of my books after I'm dead, charge onto set and make sure they don't mess the whole story up! Those Hollywood people have no idea what they are doing and need all the help they can get.

Today's Challenge: the first sentence of the first chapter of your first published novel/story. "This was not going over well at all." - Tales of the Wovlen: The Dragon's Son Um. Well. That was underwhelming. I really need to work on my first sentence hook. It would have sounded better if I had gone with "He expected his brother would disagree with him, fight with him even, but not threaten war and raise an army in one breath." or "He'd expected to challenge his brother, not a demon." or "His brother throwing a tantrum was expected, but threatening to unleash a crazed dragon and start a war was going too far." Because, you know, dragons are instant attention grabbers and great hooks. So are demons. And wars too. ANYTHING is better than "Well. That didn't go so good. Derp, derp, derp."
Today's challenge is going to be a fun one! But first, if you haven't been keeping up with this challenge so far, here are the previous days!: DAY ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, TEN, ELEVEN, TWELVE, THIRTEEN, FOURTEEN, FIFTEEN, SIXTEEN, SEVENTEEN, EIGHTEEN, NINETEEN, & TWENTY.
Today's challenge: the actor you would choose to play the main character in a movie adaptation of your WIP. Oh man! I have wasted so much time thinking about this over the years! I mean, what author doesn't dream of their book getting its own movie adaptation? But, even though I have thought about it a lot, I have no idea which actor I'd like to see take on the role of Keegan, the main character in my Tales of the Wovlen series. I have actors picked out for nearly every character in my series, but Keegan has me stumped. He has his own face in my mind, one that can't just be picked out from a crowd of actors. Keegan is special. I'm not even sure what actor I'd choose for his voice if I were to do an audio book with voice actors. Maybe Chris Pratt? Or Chris Pine? What about Chris Evans? Not Chris Hemsworth! No sir. No way. I'll save his gorgeous voice for a dragon! Yum! What's your opinion? Who'd you'd like to see play Keegan in a live action movie? Oh boy! Now that I've started thinking about this again, I should do a blog post about all the different actors I'd like to see play my characters in a movie! |
